Let’s continue on the subject of Yohio and his supposed feminism, which causes his disgust for Nicki Minaj and her video.
Firstly, he claims that it’s objectification of women, which is missing the point. The song, video, and Nicki’s opinion in general is about how female sexuality belongs to women. If a woman dresses promiscuously, this does not mean she does so for the sake of men, or for objectification. Nicki suggests that hey, maybe she just WANTS to dress that way.
secondly, the video portrays a woman in control of a man. Drake is simply a taker in the video, a prop, an object, to which Nicki does as she pleases. She is not selling herself and her body for his sake, she’s choosing to do something which excites the man. A man who is not allowed to touch btw.
So, in conclusion, this is not a video about female objectification. It is a video about female empowerment and free will.
And in regards to the childish comment about today’s music being about sex: wake up. Pop music might not have been so blatantly about sex in the past, but you know what was? ROCK.
Not to mention that being against teaching sex to young people is pretty fucked up. Because you know what? Young people have sex. It happens. Not teaching them about it isn’t gonna stop that, it’s only gonna make it more dangerous. How on earth is teaching people healthy ideals about sex(which many women in music do these days) wrong? This brings us onto slut shaming which is another thing that Yohio seems to condone. But that’s a subject for another time.
Here comes a rant that’s gonna upset a few people, but hopefully open the eyes of others. Yohio is NOT the rolemodel he claims to be.
First of all, he bashes on other artists for not being rolemodels for kids. First off, when did this become their job? When did it become the job of celebrities to raise our kids, and teach them values and morals? The answer is never. You might think that because children look up to these people, it’s their responsibility, but it isn’t. These people have their own lives, and shouldn’t have to censor themselves simply because you can’t raise your kid properly.
Which brings me onto my second point, which is that Yohio is supporting censorship. He supports shutting down whatever doesn’t go along with his values. He claims to stand for personal freedom and the right to be whoever you want, yet he bashes celebrities for “promoting promiscuity”, because that’s not what he wants them to promote.
Now, I’m not saying Yohio should stop trying to be a rolemodel, or stop trying to preach his values, because he’s totally free to do so. But you, as his fans, need to realise that this person does not want you to be free to do what you want. This person wants you to be free to do what he wants.
Yohio, burned out at 16.
"Constant struggle for adolescents to fit in"
It happened when he was alone at an airport in Japan.
Yohio couldn’t board the plane. He felt hopeless and alone, but the other thing that happened was something he couldn’t put into words. Not at the time.
